We orientated this house toward the west – ahem.
Our clients told us that on arriving home from their air-conditioned offices they craved the warming afternoon rays before the day closed. And why not when you’ve got the stretching limbs of a big blue-gum filtering in the sunlight.
Of course, it also gave us a great excuse to hang bright yellow canvas blinds, and stretch a planted wire screen across the building’s façade, tempering the summer’s bite.
We did tilt the axis of the house a little to the north, cutting the floor plan diagonally across the small lot. Two landscaped wedges straddle the house on either side and the trees and garden and sunshine look in at every room.
